Width Guidelines
A very flexible rule of thumb for choosing width:
- 3/8" for toy breeds, under 10 lbs
- 5/8" for small breeds, 10-30 lbs
- 3/4" for medium breeds, 20-50 lbs
- 1" for large breeds, 40-100 lbs
- 1.5" for giant breeds, 100+ lbs

One more thing about custom sizing...
Keep in mind we cannot add range to one end without sacrificing range from the other. Expect roughly 3" of range for small sizes, 5" for medium sizes, 7" for large sizes, and so on.

By popular request, Fi compatible breakaway collars with breakaway clasp AND traditional "quick clip" buckle. The traditional buckle can be personalized and will prevent unnecessary wear and tear on the breakaway clasp, perfect for daily on and off use.
1" wide, adjustable collar features a unique plastic breakaway clasp that will come loose if the wearer gets caught on something (fence, crate, heat vents, another animal, etc).
Double D rings allow you to bypass the breakaway feature and safely use this collar with a leash!

Fox Valley Pet Wear breakaway collars come with a proprietary buckle reinforcement to prevent accidental breakaways more common with larger or heavier dogs (M-XL sizes only). Buckle reinforcements are removable, replaceable, and adjustable - instructions are included with purchase.
Size & Width

Mini Tag Ring
Upgrade any collar, harness, or leash with this mini D-ring (3/8" wide inside diameter) to hang your pet's tags from. Reduces tag-to-buckle jingling; keeps your tags from hitting the buckle, keeping your buckle looking newer, longer; and frees up space on your D-ring for your leash!
Frequently Asked Questions
Are "Quick Release" buckles the same as "Breakaway" buckles?
This one is so common and so many pet-parents are horrified to learn that "quick release" is NOT the same as "breakaway." Quick release buckles, also called side-release buckles, have two 'buttons' on their sides that a person must squeeze or pinch to open. They are 'quick' compared to the older style belt-type closure that has a tongue-buckle and holes punched in the other end. Quick release buckles can be opened under pressure - tongue-buckles must be tightened slightly to open them fully - this is problematic if the collar is already pulled too tightly.
Breakaway buckles or breakaway clasps will pop open with a certain amount of force and do not require a human to do so. Breakaway clasps are ideal for unsupervised activities. Use with a leash requires the leash clip to be clipped to both D-rings to bypass the breakaway feature. Failure to secure both D-rings on a leash or tie out will result in the collar falling off and the dog getting loose.
Can I order a BREAKAWAY collar WITHOUT D-rings?
Yes! You are welcome to request we omit D-rings on any breakaway collar (excludes all pre-made clearance items). Leave a note in the 'Order Special Instructions' box at checkout or the personalization text box to omit them.
This modification should only be considered if you NEVER plan to clip a leash to the collar - for instance, you always walk your dog on a harness.
Double check your sizing - customization of this nature make a collar ineligible for return/exchange.
What is the buckle reinforcement?
Our breakaway clasps are engineered to work with dogs of all sizes, so they have a relatively low break force (8lbs on 5/8" and wider collars, 5lbs on 3/8" wide collars) to safely accommodate smaller dogs. The hook and loop reinforcement (similar to 'Velcro') provides approximately 12-15 additional pounds of break force.
Reinforcement pieces are removable, replaceable, and adjustable. We include a buckle reinforcement piece with all collars 13" and longer*.

*reinforcement pieces are not recommended or supplied for any semi-breakaway martingales unless you experience frequent accidental breakaways.
Are metal buckles breakaway?
No, metal buckles are not breakaway. HOWEVER - Choosing a metal buckle will not affect the breakaway function of your collar! Each of our dog breakaway collars have two clasps - a traditional side-release buckle that you must 'pinch' to open AND a plastic breakaway clasp.

Biothane Waterproof Webbing

I took a chance, seeing as this was one of the only companies who make a FI series 3 breakaway collar and there weren’t too many reviews. So I definitely wanted to give a review once I tried it out ! This is a really nice collar. Well made and sturdy material. It has the same exact Fi components to lock in the gps. I got the additional d ring to add a tag onto. Happy that this will not only keep my pup safe knowing where she is at all times, but also know that she will safely be able to get out of it if she were to ever get snagged on something. Thank you fox valley! Highly recommend.
I usually don’t post reviews, but I’m mainly posting a review so other people can see what the pattern looks like since there were no pictures before I purchased it. Pattern turned out great! Ordered Painted Peonies in size 15" - 18" in 1" wide with Black Plastic. Definitely breaks away well. Puppy was playing with other dogs and it broke away exactly how it should which is great since she’s clumsy and gets caught on things. Only downside which could just be my dog is that my dog finds it itchy so we don’t leave it on her at night.
Thank you for bringing this up, it's a really good point and one of the few downsides of offering so many different combinations and styles - I simply don't have photos of every combination (although in an ideal world, I would!)

I bought one of these for all five of my dogs because I have 2, 18 month old standard poodles and they play pretty rough at times. These are high quality, excellent looking collars and they work as advertised!
Bought a breakaway because my shiba got caught on one of my cabinet handles with a regular collar...so this is safe but has his name in case he gets out of the house…we use his harness for walks. Love the pattern
Had this for about a month on a Kong 1.25 wide collar. Fits great no chance of it coming off without us taking it off. We got slate and font is easy to read and hasn't been scratched even with dogs wrestling and playing rough. Would definitely buy again down the road.
I was expecting fabric like most of the decorative collars, but this is the webbing so it should look nice for much longer! Really cute. I am sure I will get more.
When my friend told me forever ago that her poodle got strangled when their collar got caught on a fence I became worried about leaving collars on my dogs; however, I do like to keep them on because of the ID tags. Breakaway collars are the perfect solution. They can wear their collars and if they happen to get caught they won't strangle themselves. I like the collar I ordered for my pup and will definitely be ordering another one when he outgrows it. The shipping was fast and customer service seems great! I also like the piece of velcro (I think?) they included with the collar to make the collar harder to break off for larger dogs. It also gives instructions on how to cut the velcro to change the amount of force required for the collar to break apart.

I ordered 2 collars with an add on for both and they both look great! We haven't had to rely on the breakaway part yet, but I'm glad it's there. We had an incident with other collars that was definitely scary. I like that these collars have a way to override the breakaway feature with an extra band around the breakaway part made for larger dogs (mine are 65lb and 85 lbs). I also really like the reflective portion of the collar and the engraved details. Overall these seem really well made and I'm glad I got these collars!

The description is factual that they are huge, which you should expect if you're ordering one to fit a 1.5 inch collar. It goes right on, is curved for comfort, doesn't jingle, text shows up beautifully. I am VERY satisfied with this purchase, and will come back when I need another one!

After one dog twisted through his harness and made a dash for the main road, I 100% recommend everyone get a harness to collar safety clip. I got the 5/8" and it was big when my doodle was 8 weeks old, but now that she's 16 weeks old, it's a great size.
