Returns & Exchanges

We accept returns, exchanges, and cancellations

Ship items back within: 14 days of delivery
Request a cancellation within: 1 hour - we cannot guarantee cancellations on personalized items - contact us right away and we'll do our best to accommodate. Cancellation of orders over $100 will be refunded less a 5% payment processing fee. Our payment processors retain these fees even if an order is refunded to the buyer.


Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, we can't accept returns for:
  • Customized or personalized orders
  • Fi-Compatible BIOTHANE collars
  • Digital downloads


REFUNDS & EXCHANGES

  • RETURNS REQUIRE PRIOR AUTHORIZATION. You must contact us PRIOR to returning an item. Items shipped back without prior authorization will be considered forfeited and subject to resale or disposal without notice or refund.
  • Certain products are subject to restocking fees. Restocking fees are waived if you opt for store credit rather than refund to your original payment method.
  • Custom sizes, personalized items, or sale/clearance items may not be eligible for return or may be subject to the restocking fee and/or only be eligible for store credit.
  • The following products will incur a restocking fee of 25% OR store credit upon return
    • all harnesses
    • all by-the-yard or by-the-foot cuts of material
    • all Fi-Compatible webbing collars (excludes Biothane Fi collars)
  • No Refunds or Exchanges on FI-COMPATIBLE BIOTHANE collars. All sales are final on these items, even non-customized or personalized collars.
  • Any refunds given EXCLUDE original shipping & handling costs. Orders which qualified for free shipping will be refunded minus actual shipping & handling costs.
  • Returns must be received within 14 days of delivery* to be eligible for refund or exchange. *Delivery date will be determined by the USPS timestamp of delivery to the address on the order.
  • If we sent the wrong item, we will work to correct the mistake promptly. This may include issuing a pre-paid return label so that you can return the incorrect item to us while we re-ship the correct item.
  • Exchanges are simplified by issuing refunds so the customer may place a new order. Many customers prefer to place a new order immediately so that we can begin making their items while awaiting their returned item.
  • Refunds are processed once returned items are received at our shop, inspected, and approved. You should receive an e-mail notification of your refund. It may take 3-5 business days for funds to appear on your account/statement. This is fully dependent upon your financial institution, contact them with questions or concerns.
  • Returned items must be in new, unused, resalable condition to be eligible for refund, partial or full. Any loss in value on a returned item will be deducted from the return amount.

WARRANTY

We guarantee all of our items for a period of 60 days from purchase for hardware defects or craftsmanship defects only. Wear and tear, accidental damage, damage due to misuse, or loss is excluded from this warranty. If you experience breakage as a result of a hardware or craftsmanship defect within the 60 days warranty period, you may return the item to us for repair or replacement* at no extra cost. Buyer pays return shipping of the defective item, we will cover shipping costs of the new or repaired item.

*Replacement is at seller's discretion only. Replacement items must be of equal or lesser value of original item, else buyer will be responsible for the difference in cost.

No product for dogs is indestructible; wear and tear is normal and will not be considered a defect.




EXCEPTIONS

All Warranties will be considered NULL and VOID if the item has been modified, repaired, or otherwise tampered with by anyone other than Fox Valley Pet Wear.







AFTER THE WARRANTY

If more than 60 days has passed and a piece of your gear is damaged, we can often repair it  for a low, reasonable fee. Contact us with any issues.







ORDER CHANGES

Your order may be started immediately upon order receipt (especially engraved items). Cancellation may not be possible, but please contact us ASAP if you need to request a cancellation or change to your order, we will be happy to make changes to orders that have not been started.

If we have questions about your order, which is common, we will contact you through the email you provided. PLEASE PROVIDE A VALID EMAIL ADDRESS.  Remember to check your email (and spam folder) if you are waiting on an order from us. We do not have a business phone line so we appreciate your willingness to correspond through e-mail only.
Orders are subject to cancellation at any time if information is missing from an order and the buyer has failed to reply to messages/emails.







OTHER

Please understand, each item is hand-made so no two will be exactly alike. No product for dogs is indestructible, and pet gear will show wear after extended use, rough play/handling, and/or certain environmental influences out of our control. Normal wear and tear will not be considered a defect.
Please remember we are not Walmart or Amazon, we are a small family-owned business. We make every attempt to handle returns, warranties, and order changes fairly and reasonably. We hope our customers will do the same.








Pet owners are responsible for their pets and the gear used. Always inspect items carefully and discontinue use if they show wear or breakage. Fox Valley Pet Wear will not be responsible for injuries or misuse of our products. Use good judgment and common sense with the safety of your pet in mind at all times.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are "Quick Release" buckles the same as "Breakaway" buckles?

This one is so common and so many pet-parents are horrified to learn that "quick release" is NOT the same as "breakaway." Quick release buckles, also called side-release buckles, have two 'buttons' on their sides that a person must squeeze or pinch to open. They are 'quick' compared to the older style belt-type closure that has a tongue-buckle and holes punched in the other end. Quick release buckles can be opened under pressure - tongue-buckles must be tightened slightly to open them fully - this is problematic if the collar is already pulled too tightly.

Breakaway buckles or breakaway clasps will pop open with a certain amount of force and do not require a human to do so. Breakaway clasps are ideal for unsupervised activities. Use with a leash requires the leash clip to be clipped to both D-rings to bypass the breakaway feature. Failure to secure both D-rings on a leash or tie out will result in the collar falling off and the dog getting loose.

Are metal buckles breakaway?

No, metal buckles are not breakaway. HOWEVER - Choosing a metal buckle will not affect the breakaway function of your collar! Each of our dog breakaway collars have two clasps - a traditional side-release buckle that you  must 'pinch' to open AND a plastic breakaway clasp.

My breakaway collar falls off too easily - what do I do?

If you don't see any physical damage to the clasp (chips, cracks, bite marks, etc) it is most likely that the included hook and loop reinforcement has either been removed or lost. This piece is necessary for larger dogs to prevent accidental breakaways.

All breakaway collars in lengths 13" or greater are shipped with a reinforcement piece already installed and include instructions inside the package.

In our experience, nearly all instances of accidental breakaways is a result of the reinforcement being removed or lost.

Our clasps are engineered to work with dogs of all sizes, so they do have a relatively low break force to safely accommodate smaller dogs. The hook and loop reinforcement provides approximately 12-15 additional pounds of break force. Your collar will still break away with the reinforcement in place. Replacements can be ordered here.

My buckle text is wrong or outdated. What can I do?

If the buckle is on a breakaway collar, you can order a replacement here.

If the buckle is on any other type of gear, contact us to see what your options are. Most often we'll need the collar to be sent in to have the buckle replaced.

Why are there 'upgrade' items in my cart?

Upgrade items are automatically added to your cart when you select an upgrade from a product page - a metal buckle, personalization, an extra D-ring, etc. These show as a separate line item in your cart, but they are "tied" to the item directly above it.

If you delete these items from your cart, you will not be charged for them, and your order will not receive them.

Occasionally, I may reach out via e-mail or text to confirm the removal of these upgrade items if it seems unusual. For example, you purchase 4 collars with engraved buckles, but somehow one engraved buckle upgrade was deleted while the other 3 remain. HOWEVER - this does not mean I will reach out about every upgrade deletion. If the order otherwise looks complete, I will proceed with your items WITHOUT the upgrades because in 99% of cases, a customer simply changed their mind and that is OK! 

Similarly, if an upgrade remained in the cart after the parent product was removed, we will refund that item for you automatically.

To ensure your order is processed without delay, it's best to either leave a note in the Special Order Instructions box explaining briefly any deletions OR remove the items from the cart then revisit the product page and make the corrected selections to avoid confusion and delays.
